ME AND MY CAMERA

My photographic journey started around 15 years ago when, bored one day, I bought a second-hand, Nikon SLR camera. After spending far too long pouring over books on how to take the perfect photo, I eventually realised that to learn, I had to just get out and take images. So, I did.

Many a happy day has been spent doing what I love most: exploring the Dorset woodlands, open fields, the everchanging coast line, always with camera in hand.  On retiring, my husband and I bought a campervan and now spend as much time as possible exploring the amazing landscape across the British Isles.

My favourite spot is the one where I don't just see the landscape around me, I feel immersed in it. It’s calming, being that step away from all the normal stresses of life and allows me to get lost in the moment. My aim is to try and capture that emotion in my photography: the woodland walk that makes me stop and listen to the trees, the rolling hills that make me wonder what's on the other side and of course the sea that never fails to fill me with total awe.

Over the years, I gradually realised that photography was my way of sharing the beauty of the environment and that perfection is very subjective. Quite often my images are abstract or impressionistic. This is how I sometimes like to see the world around me: less defined so we can make up our own minds.

My camera equipment has progressed from one camera and one lens to... well let’s just say a little bit more. In addition, I decided to start printing my own images which has added a whole new level of fun (and occasional frustration). I now proudly print on fine art papers using pigment-based inks, which not only enhances the appearance but also significantly extends the life of the print.

By managing the entire process from the click of the shutter to the final fine art print, I ensure that each piece carries the exact emotion of the moment it was taken. I hope my prints bring that same sense of peace, wonder and open-minded interpretation into your own home.
